If you’ve noticed weird issues with some of Windows 11’s built-in apps and tools since the calendar hit November, you’re not alone. In a post on Microsoft’s Known Issues for Windows 11 page, the company says that an expired digital certificate has rendered some users “unable to open or use certain built-in Windows apps or parts of some built-in apps.”

Affected apps include the Snipping Tool, the Accounts page of the Settings app (but only when run in Windows S mode), Touch Keyboard, Voice Typing, Emoji picker, Input Method Editor, and Tips app. There is no indication that Windows 10 versions of any of these apps are affected.

For everything except the Snipping Tool and the S mode Settings app, an update is already available to fix the issues; this is the same build 22000.282 of Windows 11 which fixes some AMD Ryzen performance issues. To fix these issues, check Windows Update and install this patch. Fixes for other issues are in progress.
